Honest Fayre. Local Flair.
At the Green Well, an Essence Restaurant Group establishment, we serve honest fayre with local flair in a green, neighborhood setting that keeps customers coming back. Our innovative gastro pub is green beyond its name: Our building is LEED® certified inside and out which means it's environmentally safe, ultra efficient and leaves behind the smallest possible carbon footprint.
Our creative, ever-changing menu features a global range of eclectic flavors prepared with ingredients from local farmers, and our beverage offering includes a wide array of local craft brews and wines, all to support our local economy. Our greenness also spills over to our guests who benefit from affordable prices and outstanding service by a fun, welcoming staff.
An American Gastro Pub
"Gastro pub" is a British term for a public house that specializes in high-quality food. The term derives from gastronomy and was coined when the first gastro pub, "The Eagle," was opened in London, England. Gastro pubs are well known in Europe for offering a relaxed atmosphere with an eclectic menu prepared to the highest possible standards.
Draughts & Flights
In the tradition of Gastro pubs, The Green Well offers over 20 draught beers on tap and a vast selection of bottles, ranging from local craft, American craft and traditional European-style brews. The draught list changes regularly in order to give guests exposure to the world of quality craft beers. Our three-tiered wine list offers a unique spin, featuring flight and tastings that must be experienced with a visit to The Green Well. A carefully selected wine menu encourages guests to enjoy multiple wine flavors with food pairings. Classic cocktails are also available.

What Makes Us Green?
Green Building Green Cuisine Green Philosophy & These 16 Things:
1. LEED-CS: U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design - The core and exterior shell of the building are designed and constructed as high-performance and energy efficient.
2. Brownfield Redevelopment: Our restaurant has re-energized a site that has been mostly vacant site for over 20 years.
3. Historical Context: Located in the Fairmount Square Historic District along the sidewalk edge to make it pedestrian friendly.
4. Zero Storm Water Discharge: We collect, retain and re-use rainfall and runoff before releasing it into the environment. We have no connection to the city storm sewer.
5. Cistern: We collect and store all rainwater on the roof and use it to water the garden and landscaping as needed.
6. Porous Pavement: Our parking lot is permeable, allowing water to pass through the surface to eliminate the use of salt.
7. Reduced Heat Island Effect: Our light-colored roof reflects the sun's energy back into the atmosphere, thereby reducing global warming.
8. High Efficiency HVAC: Our furnace operates at a 90+ efficiency rating and air conditioning at 13 SEER to keep energy use low.
9. Thermal Shell: Insulated concrete and thermal pane windows with Low E glass offer comfort and energy efficiency.
10. LEED-CI: - Commercial Interior. Our building's interior is designed and constructed with healthy, energy-efficient furnishings, equipment, methods and materials.
11. Low VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds): VOCs are hazardous substances contained in conventional building materials. Our building uses special paints, adhesives and caulks with low or no VOCs.
12. Low-Flow Water Fixtures: Dual-flush Caroma toilets and low-flow water faucets use 30% less potable water.
13. Energy Efficient Equipment: The restaurant uses computer-controlled equipment to optimize performance, like the modulating kitchen hood which uses 30% less electricity than conventional equipment.
14. Recycling: We recycle all our waste at The Green Well, including paper, cardboard plastic, glass, and grease. Our waste nets one tenth that of a typical restaurant.
15. 100% PCW: We use limited paper products and all are recycled content without dyes. All our printed materials are printed on 100% PCW content paper.
16. Sustainable Farming: We prepare every dish from scratch with the highest quality, local ingredients available. In-season, we use chemical-free produce purchased daily from local farmers who farm the land sustainably to ensure it is usable for generations to come.
